The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Since some have asked "Who is this Judy Swanson on the Quill Staff?" let me introduce myself. I was born in Aledo. on May 1, 1941 to Franklyn and Lucille (Glisan) Collins. My parents lived near Joy at the time, but moved back to the La Harpe area when I was around 6 months old. I have lived in the area ever since.
I graduated from La Harpe High School in 1959 and married Rodney Swanson in January of 1961.
We raised 3 sons, Carl, Kyle, and Eric on my husband's family farm east of La Harpe. We now have two daughters in law, Leesa and Denise. We also have 4 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, and 3 step great granchildren.
When Dessa interviewed me, I told her I wasn't a reporter, I didn't know how to use a digital camera, and I was not a speed typist. She hired me in spite of all that!!
I really enjoy working at The Quill and being around people. And now I am learning to be a reporter, and I have learned how to use a digital camera!!
We retired from farming 6 1/2 years ago and moved into town.
Some of the things I like to do include spending time with my family and I especially enjoy going to my grandchildren's activities. It's fun watching them "grow and bloom" in their own special areas.
Since our retirement, my husband and I have become ordained ministers. So now perhaps my greatest pleasure (almost as passion) is studying and teaching the Bible. In this past year I felt I was to start putting my teachings in writing so I have written 3 teaching syllabi (teaching manuals) on different Bible subjects and have started research on the 4th one.
I am a small town person and enjoy living in La Harpe where | can greet people by their first names and be greeted with smiles. It's like having extended family.
My desire is to get to know more of you and to encourage you to help us improve our paper. You can do this by helping us gather local news.
If you have children in school you can help the coaches or teachers report sporting events, class room happenings, or music and art activities. If you belong to clubs or organizations we would enjoy hearing about these. Our readers have told us they also enjoy reading about your family gatherings .
After I started working at the Quill one of my sons said, " We'd better watch what we're saying now cause it might get in the paper."
Now that you have learned about me, I pray our paths will cross and I will learn something about you!
