Letter to Editor

Dear Editor,

"Dear Hearts and Gentle People-that live in my hometown".

Yes, even though I lived elsewhere for more than twenty years, I always thought of Stronghurst as my hometown. And I always hoped in my "heart of hearts" that someday we would find the courage to have one community church that would show that after all, we love and worship one God, and all the ethnic differences that originally brought so many denominations to our country, and to our community would somehow melt away with time.

I think Paul says it better than I ever could in his letter to the Phillipians 2: 12 through 16 verses:

"Dearest friends, when I was there with you, you were always so careful to follow my instructions. And now that I am away, you must be even more careful to do the good things that result from being saved, obeying God with deep reverence, shrinking back from all that might displease Him."

"For God is at work within you, helping you do what He wants."

"In everything you do, stay away from complaining and arguing, so that no one can speak a word of blame against you. You are to live clean, innocent lives as children of God in a dark world full of people who are crooked and stubborn. Shine out among them life beacon lights, holding out to them the word of life."

If you were accused of being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?

In Christian love,
Dorothy Martin
