Council Hears Of Hog Confinement Building Plans

November 24, 2003 Meeting

The La Harpe City Council meeting for November was called to order at 7:00 p.m. and all members were present.

After the treasurer's report accepted and bills ordered paid Jerry Squier approached the council with questions regarding the new Mobile Home Ordinance 2003-6.

Further discussion will be continued at a later date. At this time, the opinion of the council is to leave the ordinance as is.

Andrew Johnson and Nate Butler were present in regard to the new hog confinement being constructed west of LaHarpe.

Johnson presented a detailed layout of the building and answered questions concerning the odor that may affect the city. He explained the "hi-tech" building will be well constructed with adequate ventilation, and the spreading of manure will not be near the city limits and will be greatly monitored for any inconvenience of odor to anyone.

The site has been carefully inspected with all guidelines being met.

The next meeting of the City Council will be held December 8 at 7:00 p.m. Bids will be opened for the cemetery and city park maintenance contracts before the meeting.

The meeting adjourned at 8:12 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Carol Stevens, La Harpe City Clerk
