Silver Seniors dancing to stay young

by Donna Grisham, Quill Staff

The Silver Senior Steppers performed Tuesday afternoon at La Harpe Davier Nursing Home.

These "young" ladies range in age from 62 to 95. It's a lot of fun, good exercise and they all enjoy dancing.

"We dance at least once a month, and in good weather we dance twice a month", said Mary Strah.

Strah started the group in 1993 with her husband George.

The ladies watch videos and attend country line dances to learn new steps. They practice every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Newberry Senior Center in Fort Madison, Iowa.

These ladies have danced to raise funds for mentally handicapped projects, danced at Catfish Bend Casino, and for an open house at the YMCA.

We especially enjoyed watching three of La Harpe's ladies dance - Louise Collins, Geraldine Meeks, and Pat Wright.
