Area Residents in the U.S. Military

The Quill is forming a list of area residents in the U.S. military. This is a voluntary listing of soldiers designed to help us keep track of our local heroes during the war "Operation Iraqi Freedom".

Serving The Military

Union School Reports:

• Andy Sterett (Pre-K) has an Uncle, Brian Sterett serving in the military.
• Matt Temple (Pre-K) and Alex Temple (2nd) have both parents who are-TSgt. Richard Temple and Gretchen Temple, serving in the Air Force in Incirlik AB, Turkey. Hometown: Oquawka. Children have been sent to stay with grandparents in Oquawka.
• Zachery Bundy(K), Matthew Bundy (2nd), and Elizabeth Bundy (6th) have an Uncle, Zach Murphy serving with the Air Force at Qatar.
• Gabrielle Hall (3rd), and Veronica Hall (4th) have their father currently stationed in Korea.
• Justin Waterman (12th) has a brother, Jon Waterman, currently serving in the military.
• Jackie Price (11th) has two brothers, Matt and Mike Price, currently serving in the military.
• Megan Clark (10th) and Nancy Clark (employee) have two cousins, Steve Sprout and Jason Mansfield, both in military in Kuwait.
• Joel Davis, former student of U.H.S. is currently serving in the military.
• Scott Blindt, graduate of U.H.S. is currently serving in the military.
• Luci Lox (7th), Lene Lox (9th), Lisa Lox (employee), and Jeff Lox (employee), have a brother, Landon Lox, currently training with Special Ops. at Ft. Bragg, NC.
• Jill Paterson (employee) has a brother-in-law, Rod Plate, currently serving in our military.
• Michael Bennett (12th) has his father, Larry Bennett, and sister, Heather, both serving in Iraq.
• Tony Patlan (employee) has a grandson, Ernie Patlan Moreno currently stationed at the Iraq - Kuwait border.

Southern Graduates Serving:

SHS reports the following graduates of Southern are now serving in our military.

• Clayton Grafton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Grafton, U.S. Navy
• C.J. Stull, son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Stull, National Guard
• Chris Burgdorf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Burgdorf, National Guard
• Kale Burgdorf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Burgdorf, National Guard
• Jacob Quigley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Quigley, National Guard
• Eric Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Murl Johnson, Army
• Mike Link, son of Mr. Darrell Link, Marines
• Zach Murphy, son of Bill and Janet Murphy, Infantry
• Maj. Mike Evans, 35, son of Jane Evans, Army, currently stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. but out of the country at the present time. He has a wife, Peg, and son Sean, and they are expecting in July.
• ¥1963 Graduate David Pendry of Arizonia writes that his daughter Catherine LeAnn Pendry-Acklin and son-in-law Robb Acklin are in the U.S. Air Force. She is assigned to Lagley AFB, VA. Her husband assigned overseas to Turkey during the present war with Iraq.

La Harpe Area Serving: in our military.

• Sgt. Gary Jackson U.S. Army, 101st Airborne, Ft. Campbell, KY, Left for Bagdad 3/25 from Kuwait. 1990 LHS Graduate, Wife Shana (Olson), two daughters Savannah and Kayla. Sister Lori Hauck. Gary is the son of Roger Jackson and Ann Carrel and stepson of Mort Carrel and Marilyn Jackson.

Others serving the military- no specifics given as yet:

• Alex J. Lovell, US Navy, -LHS Grad is serving on the naval destroyer USS John Paul Jones (DDG-53) presently in port in San Diego, CA. The John Paul Jones was in the Persian Gulf on 9-11-01 and on 10-7-01 using Tomahawk cruise missiles fired the opening shots into Afghanistan in response to the War on Terror. He is the son of Brian and Joyce Lovell of LaHarpe and is married to the former Laurie Fox of San Diego, CA
