Monday, April 7th, new In La Harpe School Board members were seated during the organizational meeting, and two others were recognized for their dedicated service to the district.
Cindy Wear, and Ed Pence and incumbent Ricky Johnson were seated at the regular meeting. President Ricky Johnson presented Larry Caston and don Latherow plaques and thanked them for their dedication to the board.
Barbara Cox was elected as president of the newly organized board and Ricky Johnson was elected as vice president.
Ricky Johnson and Dan Horton were appointed to the Ag Committee, Mark Irish and Ed Pence to the Building Trades & Grounds Committee, and Cindy Wear and Lawrence Johnson to the Policy Committee.
Eleven reduction-in-Force Resolutions were approved for support personnel. Tenure was granted to Carrie Finch and Martha Bartlett was employed as full-time elementary/junior high guidance counselor.
Employment was approved of first year teachers: Jerry Schmitz, Nathan Kotleba, and Melinda Smith for the 2003-04 school year, and approved with regret the resignations of teachers Jenni McCool and Jason Bronke and Hearing Impaired Interpreter Tammy Miller.
In was reported by High School Principal that High School Juniors would be taking the Prairie State Exam and Illinois State Learning Battery on April 23rd and April 24th.
He said the National Honor Society's Penny Carnival was held April 12th. Funds generated from this will be used to sponsor one or more book scholarships for seniors attending college next year.
The cash register receipts program from R & D Foods has come to a conclusion. The final tabulation will b doner and sent in before April 25th. Some of the proposed items that could be ordered are printers, headphones, overhead projectors, scanners, camcorders, or digital cameras.
