The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Early schools of Henderson County were roughly built log cabins with mud and stick chimneys.
Windows were left out and might later be covered with greased paper so light could enter.
Seats were fashioned from logs of small trees split in half with legs put in by boring with a large auger.
A shelf was attached to the wall for writing purposes. The puncheon floor had wide cracks between each board.
Once a dunce block was designed in a corner, the school was complete.
