The Vote Is In

Almost four hours after the polls closed Tuesday night (10:50 p.m.) County Clerk Marcella Cisna had finished the official counting of ballots from 62.17% of Henderson County's 5,414 voters. This is about 10% lower than two years ago during the Presidential Election when Henderson County had 72.79% of its 5,483 voters call for ballots.

This year, with 3,366 voters at the polls, Terre Haute recorded the best percentage of turn out, 133 out of 168 voters (79.17%).

Ninety-eight of those voting in Terre Haute were in the La Harpe School District where the approval of a school consolidation with Roseville, Northwest, LaHarpe, and Colchester was being sought.

71 voted "NO", 23 voted "YES" and 4 elected to skip the question. Thirty-seven in the Lomax presinct also voted on the proposed consolidation with 19 votes "Yes" and 18 votes "No". This totaled 44-yes and 88 no votes for Henderson County.

In Hancock County, voters turned down the question in the La Harpe School District with 639 "NO" votes and 378 "Yes" votes.

Hancock County's percentage of voters almost equaled that of Henderson County. Out of 13,399 registered voters in 35 precincts, 8,327 ballots (62.15%) voted.

In Henderson County's contested races, Susan M. Meyer, chief treasurer's deputy, was given the nod for County Treasurer over County Board member Randy Keever seeking the job. The vote was 1,976 to 1,295.

Democrats remain in control of the Henderson County Board 6 to 5 with Barbara Lumbeck (R) the top pick by voters with. Results are:

Incumbent Sheriff Mark Lumbeck was approved by voters for his second term with 2,195 votes over Republican challenger Michael Bohnenkamp-645 and Independent Wes Long with 439.

In the bid for Judge of the Circuit Court, Ninth Judicial Circuit, Henderson County, States Attorney David L. Vancil, Jr. (above) was selected over Democrat Attorney LaMarr W. Evans (Vancil-1,827 to Evans-1405).

State Republican Minority Leader Senator Laura Kent Donahue, Quincy collected 1,620 votes in Henderson and 3,846 in Hancock, but was defeated in each county by challenger John Sullivan of Rushville.

Sullivan had 1,644 votes (Henderson) 4,655 (Hancock) a margin of 833 votes.

For State Representative Rich Myers, had 1,637 votes, over his opponent Jon E. Mummert's vote of 1,591. In Hancock County Myers had 4,287 to Mummert's 3,309.

For U.S. Congress, Incumbent Lane Evans had 2,180 over Pete Calderone's 1,113 votes. In Hancock County Evans had 4,535 to Calderone's 3,485.

For State Comptroller Daniel Hynes (D) had 1,742 to Thomas Jefferson Ramsdell (R) 1,159. In Hancock County Hynes had 3,970 to Ramsdell's 3,203.

For State Treasurer Incumbent Judy Baar Topinka had 1,769 to Thomas Dart (D) 1,322. In Hancock County Topinka had 5,047 to Dart's 2,529.

For Secretary of State Incumbent Jesse White had 2,197 to Kris Cohn (R) 945. In Hancock County White had 4,961 to Cohn's 2,781.

For Attorney General Lisa Madigan (D) had 1,582 to Joe Birkett's (R) 1,380. In Hancock County Madigan had 3,603 to Birkett's 3,696.

For Governor and Lieut. Governor, the Rod Blagojevich/Pat Quinn (D) vote was 1,528 to the Jim Ryan/Carl Hawkinson (R) 1,609. In Hancock County Blagojevich had 2,951 to Ryan's 4,743.

For U.S. Senator, Incumbent Richard Durbin received 1,811 to Jim Durbin's (R) 1,283. In Hancock County Durbin had 4,303 and Durkin 3420.

For Regional Supt. of Schools (Henderson-Mercer-Warren), Henderson County voters chose to keep incumbent R. Bruce Hall giving him 1,499 votes to James J. Kovac's 1,215.

For Judge of the Appellate Court, Third Judicial District, voters gave Dawn Conolly 1,586 votes over Dan Schmidt's 1,369. In Hancock County Conolly received 3,158 to Schmidt's 4,220..

Unchallenged, incumbent Marcella Cisna received 2,756 votes as approval for County Clerk.

In other races:

Hancock County challenger Kristine M. Pilkington took the County Treasurer's job from Democratic incumbent Beverly B. Markey. Pilkington had 4,496 votes to Markey's 3,572.

Hancock Co. Sheriff John Jefferson remains unchallenged with 7,163 votes and Regional Supt. of Schools Robt. Baumann received 6,662 votes, also unchallenged.

Hancock County Clerk Kerry Asbridge (D) also unchallenged with 6,935 votes.
