Letters to Editor

Dear Editor,

I am writing in regards to the letters that have been written in the paper about the Raritan Bank.

I am a customer with them, they have helped me when others would not.

They are still in business and doing good for people. I should know, I go down there often.

I can't understand why people would blow this problem so out of proportion.

I feel if you are going to write a letter to the paper and on the web you should have the nerve to sign your name unless you have a vendetta.

This bank has been strong for many years and will continue to do so.

I believe the customers should stand behind this bank like it has their customers.

This is my opinion.

Thank God For Freedom of the Press

Dear Editor,

The bombardment of letters to the editor began with Elian Gonzalez (so therefore they are all his fault).

There were many who thought Elian should go back to live with his father in Cuba.

Since Castro would decide most of the decisions in raising him, it still seems that Elian would be much better off living with loved relatives in a democracy, rather than with loved ones under a communist dictatorship, especially after the latter did not show much positive concern for him.

Elian doesn't seem very happy in the rare pictures of him from Cuba.

My next letter of disagreement with most people was in regard to Bobby Knight.

Did you notice that when he was given the chance to rebuild a basketball program at Texas Tech, he had a very good team in his first year?

More important than wins and losses, he has built character. Sure, he has an abrasive personality because he doesn't care about impressing people or winning personality contests.

What he does care about is instilling loyalty, honesty and respect in young people (although he has been disrespectful to many himself).

Most of the young people he deals with will carry the team concept throughout their lives.

A couple of letters dealt with the stock market. This is the last thing many people want to hear about after seeing half their life savings go down the drain in the last three years.

One way to make money is a bear market is to short stocks. It may sound unpatriotic to bet against U.S. companies (that their stock value will go down) but it isn't.

Most people stay long all the time and, of course, that is the thing to do in bull markets, when basically everyone makes money .

Some of the letters dealt with the Rams and Cardinals. Rams' personnel must have forgotten to read the one about drafting Randel El.

Watch him be an outstanding impact player for the Steelers this year!

One of my latest letters was about the effects of alcohol. These days, it seems to be the thing to do for many young people to go out and get drunk whenever possible.

As you know, this can lead to a disastrous life for high school and college students (as well as others).

If they were required to go through a Psych Ward for extreme alcoholics and see people terrified of their hallucinations, they might get a different perspective in regard to the direction of their lives.

Thank God we live in the U.S., and not in Cuba, and can express our own opinions about almost everything, even when we don't know that much.

Castro would probably have had me shot long ago.
