La Harpe City Council Hears Clean-Up Report

October 28, 2002 meeting

The LaHarpe City Council opened business at 7 p.m. and after routine business heard of the Clean-up day.

Dave Schaab from Waste Management said the volume of waste for the clean up day was more than expected.

The spring clean up will have more equipment available to handle the large volume. They said approximately 75% of the residents have participated in the recycling offered.

Graves reported that the sewer plants flow meter is going bad and needs to be replaced or repaired. The current meter was installed in the mid 80's. Finding replacement parts

to fix the present meter is a problem. A new meter would cost approximately $3,300 with shipping and labor costs extra. He will check for prices and report to the council the lowest cost of a new meter.

Several new city street lights are necessary where new homes have been built. A letter to the power company will be made to request the lights to be installed.

The motion was made for the renewal of Caseys General Stores liquor license. Motion carried.

Council had inquired about changing the four year term of the six aldermen on the council to staggering terms. A petition of residents has been signed and needs to be verified by the clerk and filed with the county clerks office to get the request on the April 2003 ballot.

Respectfully submitted,
Carol Stevens, city clerk
