The Southern Rebel's Drama Club did a great job on the play "My Son Is Crazy...But Promising!" this past weekend.
The performance was held at the Raritan Opera House under the direction of Skeet Stribling, assisted by Sally Day. The talent of the students entertained many people.
The new American Legion Hall in Stronghurst was the former Benner Tea grocery store, it housed Gilbert's Big Value grocery store also and the last occupant was a flower shop, "My Sisters and Sue" (Hopefully this will let our out of town readers recall where the building is located).
Stronghurst residents spent a great deal of time over Mother's Day weekend pumping water out of their basements. Having 4" or more of rain tended to back the water up in a lot of places.
Forty-five people from Stronghurst and surrounding areas enjoyed a bus trip to Nauvoo, sponsored by the Bank of Stronghurst, on Thursday, May 9th. Upon arriving in Nauvoo the group toured the Mormon Temple. Everyone enjoyed seeing the beautiful building, which is elegantly furnished. It was even good exercise for those who were able to walk the spiral staircase. For all who could not walk wheelchairs were provided and the elevators used. Following the tour the group went to Hotel Nauvoo for their evening meal.
Two Ruth Bergmans, one in Stronghurst and one in New Jersey, how about that? An email came to the Quill this week from Judy Shaw which read: We have a friend here in New Jersey, Ruth Bergman, a tad younger than yours, but she sends belated best birthday wishes from Mount Laurel, New Jersey. We just happened to look her up on the internet, a wonderful thing, you never know what you'll find. (The Ruth Bergman she is referring to lives at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab, Stronghurst and celebrated her 104th birthday on March 9th.)
