The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Dear Editor:
As a parent of a Jr. High Basketball player, our cheerleaders are great.
Our cheerleaders showed great spirit for our team and for our school. They enjoy cheerleading.
Cheerleading gives girls an opportunity to be involved, especially if they don't go out for basketball.
Cheerleading is a long standing tradition. Don't take it from them.
Also, how will it look if we are the only school with no cheerleaders!
Where did the spirit go?

Dear Editor:
After reading last week's Quill, I also am concerned about the elimination of the Jr. High cheerleaders.
Amy Muhleman summed it up for me and many other Southern Alumni cheerleaders. Cheerleading is a sport and competitive just like any other.
The board thinks that a "pep club" will involve more students, but in my past experience, at most of the away games the only "spirit" and supporters were the cheerleaders. Cheerleading does instill responsibility and leadership in young junior high students when they need it the most.
They did not address Tammy Guile's request at all. They still will not have a "pep club" or cheerleaders at away games.
If cost is an issue, there are more than enough people in this community that would donate their time and money to support our students.
If they are concerned with letting every student be a "cheer" leader, then they should also be concerned with letting every basketball and volleyball athlete or any other athlete have equal playing time.
