The Thunder varsity baseball team saw action in 3 games this past week, winning all 3. On Monday, April 22, the Thunder welcomed Bushnell-Prairie City/Avon to town for a conference doubleheader.
In game one, L-N jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and cruised to a 10-4 victory. Jason Myers was the winning pitcher for the Thunder, running his record to 6-1.
Eight players reached the hit column for L-N. led by Jensen Jones' 3-3 performance. Myers, Kyle Duffie, and Lane Metcalf had 2 hits apiece while Chase DeCounter, Jesse Ferguson, Jason Siegworth, and Jason Apt each had one hit.
Duffie had 3 RBI's in game one. Metcalf added a home run and 2 RBI's. Myers and Apt had as RBI apiece, with Jones adding a triple and an RBI.
Game two followed the same scenario as game one, with L-N posting an 11-2 win. Jason Siegworth collected the victory on the mound, allowing only 2 hits, while striking out 9. Jones, Myers, Metcalf, Siegworth and Michael Palmer all collected 2 hits each. Jason Apt and A.J. Huston also had a hit each. Jones had 3 RBI's, all on a 3-run home run. Siegworth had 2 RBI's, while Ben Brown, Metcalf, Myers and Apt each had one.
On Friday afternoon, April 26, the Thunder traveled to Mendon to battle the Unity Mustangs. L-N came out swinging the bats early, tallying 7 runs in the top of the first inning, and they never looked back, posting a 20-4 win.
Jensen Jones scattered 7 hits and struck out 6 for the win, improving his record to 3-0 this season. Chase DeCounter, Jason Siegworth, Lane Metcalf, Jason Myers and Jones all had 3 hits in the contest. Kyle Duffie and A. J. Huston each had 2 hits, with Huston's hits both being doubles. Ben Brown and Jason Apt had one hit apiece. Jason Apt's hit was a 2-run home run to left field. Jones and Myers led L-N with 3 RBI's. Apt, Duffie, Metcalf, DeCounter and Huston had 2 RBI's each. Jesse Ferguson also had one RBI in the win.
The wins improve the Thunder's record to 14-3 on the season and 6-0 in the Bi-County Conference.
