Southern Takes Win Over Roseville
On April 25, 2002 Southern had a dual meet with Roseville Junior High, which was held at SJH in Media.
Both the 7th and 8th grade girls' teams won the meet with 65 and 67 points.

Southern Does Well at Avon Invitational
On April 23, 2002 Southern's girls track team traveled to Avon Junior High for the Track and Field Invitational.
Both the 7th and 8th grade teams did exceptionally well.
The 8th grade team won with 120 points. The 7th grade placed third with 53 points out of ten teams.
For the 7th grade field events Hillary Brooks placed sixth in shot put and third in discus.
Alicia Phillips tied for third in high jump at 4'4". Rachele Jack and Kayla Rothzen won third and sixth in the hurdles.
Rothzen also crossed the tape for a third place in the 1600-meter run.
The 4x100 meter relay of Sarah Heller, Robin Guile, Ashley Coffey, and Miriam Rutzen achieved a fourth place.
Miriam Rutzen and Rachele Jack took third and fifth place in the 800-meter run.
The 4x200 relay that consisted of Hillary Brooks, Brittany Fox, Kristin Plath and Alicia Phillips, placed second.
Kayla Rothzen, Sarah Heller, Miriam Rutzen, and Rachele Jack won second place in the 4x400 meter relay.
The 8th graders broke many of the Avon Invitational meet records. [this is denoted by an asterisk (*).]
Darci Renken dominated the shot put with a launch of 30'5"*, Ciara Robinson came in sixth.
Ciara Robinson then threw 85'6 1/2"* in the discus to win.
Laura Hoover and Shanna Avery placed third and fourth in long jump.
In high jump Darci Renken jumped 4'7"* for first with Shayna Heap coming in second.
Shanna Avery obtained second place in the hurdles.
Laura Hoover grabbed sixth place in the 100-meter dash. With a time of 5:41.1 * in the 1600-meter run, Theresa Brokaw won.
Crystal Alexander, Darci Renken, Olivia Crandall, and Paige Lafary took second place in the 4 x 100 meter relay.
Laura Hoover ran a 1:13 * in the 400 meter run for first place with teammate Paige Lafary coming in sixth. Shayna Heap tied for fourth in the 200-meter dash.
Theresa Brokaw won the 800-meter run with a time of2:35*.
The 4x200 relay of Shayna Heap, Shanna Avery, Theresa Brokaw, and Laura Hoover placed first with a 2:08.7*.
Paige Lafary, Olivia Crandall, Darci Renken, and Shanna Avery took first in the 4x400 relay with a 5:27.8*.
