Having been hospitalized recently for a few days, I learned that it is very important to have both a Living Will and a Health Care Power of Attorney. This is not only a benefit and a safeguard to myself, but to doctors, hospitals and family as well.
Now that I'm home and feeling ever so much better, I've decide to make it my "Mission" to urge everyone - if you haven't already done so - to pick up a copy of each one, take them home, read them carefully, then if you choose - and I sincerely hope that you will - mark your choices, sign them, have them properly witnessed. You should keep a copy, your hospital needs one and also the person you have named as your Health Care Power of Attorney. I know that this is something we don't like to think about, but once you have done it, you will have a peace of mind, and so will your family. By the way, your prayers on my behalf were appreciated very much, and helped me more than you'll ever know.
