At the April meeting of the La Harpe City Council, is was reminded that a meeting is scheduled to be held at the LaHarpe Clubhouse on Thursday, May 2 at 7:00 p.m. with Jerry Baker of the economic development speaking of the Open Meetings Act and how it affects meetings held.
Council members approved four more trees to be planted at the city park and at the reservoir purchased from WIU.
The water project work at Park Lane continues. Park Lane will have the benefit of better fire protection.
Dave Schaab from Waste Management will meet at the city hall April 15 at 7:00 p.m. to discuss the options available to the city and discuss proposal suggestions for waste removal and management.
A committee will meet to discuss these options and present them to Waste Management for a proposal to approve.
Council member Irish and road commissioner, Todd Stevens, reported on a meeting held with the Keokuk Junction Railroad and operating officer regarding the railroad crossings repair.
The approach signs will be replaced for safety.
The operating officer stated it was the city's responsibility to fix the approach within two feet of the tracks.
Stevens will do the grading needed to be done to the approaches. The railroad will begin the work in the fall to rebuild the crossings.
The motion was made and approved to donate $300 to the Golden Rule Club for Summerfest.
Helmers and Palmer reported on the Hancock County Economical Development meeting they attended.
The setting of a new amount of money for the city to commit to the economic development was tabled until another meeting.
Palmer reported on the Youth Leadership Academy. She highly recommends the academy as a benefit for high school students. It helps the student to want to get more involved in the community and to succeed.
The minutes of the March city council meeting and the treasurer's report were approved.
