On Saturday March 23, the Rebel baseball team traveled to Rockridge High School for a season opening double header and came home with a pair of wins.
In the opener, Quinn Leath was on the mound for the Rebels. Quinn pitched six tough innings, striking out 11 of 25 batters he faced, while giving up only one walk and five hits. Nick Morris finished out the game in relief.
The Rebel offense exploded for thirteen hits with several players hitting well. Coming into the game, hitting was a concern for the Rebel coaches and the kids came through getting several timely hits throughout the game.
Dan Morrison led off the game with a single up the middle, followed up with a stolen base.
Unfortunately, Dan broke a finger on his head first slide into second base and will be out of action for awhile. The Rebel batters continued hitting well and with a solid defense backing up the pitching, dominated the game with the final score of 14-4.
In the second game, Christopher Wisslead was on the mound for the Rebels. He pitched well for five innings with Nick Morris coming in for the sixth and final inning. Again, the Rebel bats came alive. Josh Ragar stroked the first homerun of the season in the first inning, followed by homeruns by Christopher Wisslead and Nick Morris in key game situations.
Wisslead's a solo homerun while Morris's was a three run shot. Several players contributed with key hits during the game driving in runs for a final score of 14-4. The Rebels want to thank their warm-blooded fans who traveled to the game. They withstood a cold day with a stiff breeze to be treated well by the Rebel team with a pair of well played games.
The Rebels invite everyone out to the ball diamond to watch this season. It should be a great season with plenty of good baseball to be played.
