The Stronghurst Booster Club is giving $250 to the Henderson County American Legion Post 765 to aid in their on-going remodeling project for a Legion Hall and Community Building.
Booster Club President Dr. Todd Lange of Stronghurst said the Boosters are giving a challenge to other businesses in Stronghurst and around Henderson County to match or exceed their $250 donation.
Legion President Gene Heap said the club appreciates all the help that many are giving them to help complete this project.
The Legion has received nice donations including a large $10,000 gift from the Twomey Foundation which got them started with a much needed roof before the inside work could begin.
At present, the Legion is around $4,000 in the red not including flooring, heating and air conditioning of around $6,000 or the kitchen, bathroom and other furnishings. Many have donated their time, services, and items for the facility which is appreciated and needed. The Legion members meet in their new building the 4th Monday of each month and have signed up six new members since 9-11 bringing the membership to approximately 90.
Membership is $20 annually with $3.75 staying locally with the club
President Heap said there was approximately 1,000 veterans in the county who are eligible to join the Legion, and they are in hopes most will consider and join them.
The Legion Auxiliary is planning a party for the members on April 7th which the time will be announced later.
Meanwhile, businesses are asked to meet the Booster Club's challenge of $250.
Funds can be given in a lump sum or broken down into smaller amounts throughout the year. No matter what you give, members feel it all will add up to benefit a wonderful Legion Hall, and community building for the area.
