Letter to Editor

Dear Editor,

I would like to take a moment to express publicly my appreciation of the job that our staff at Oaklane Nursing and Rehab has done over the past several weeks.

While most activities, ball games, businesses were shut down due to the large winter storm, the weekend of March 2nd and 3rd, we at Oaklane stayed open for business.

We had staff who slept over, staff who worked double shifts, staff who worked a weekend they were scheduled to have off.

I want everyone to know we were very well staffed in all departments thanks to so many brave, loyal and dependable employees who came to work even though road conditions were less than the best.

Work was done well, work was done on time, work was done carefully, we all pitched in and worked across departmental lines to ensure the best care of our residents.

It was with a feeling of great pride that I sat back late Sunday night as the weather conditions improved and once again reflected on how our great staff handled this possibly difficult situation.

With our staff, we turned a potential crisis situation into a routine work weekend. What a great feeling to work with such a dedicated and caring staff, a staff who placed our residents care above their personal safety.

Also, within the past several weeks we have undergone an Inspection of Care Survey with the express purpose of increasing our public aide income level, so that we can continue to offer the level of care that we have done for all of our residents.

Again, thanks to all staff, we feel that we had a successful survey. With the governor threatening to reduce our pubic aid money by 8.8% the I.O.C. survey was a very important process.

And finally, in an effort to increase our revenue, we are now offering an institutional respite care package.

In short, this would allow you to leave a family member with us for a two or three day period and they would receive all the care and attention as our regular residents.

This program is offered through the Western Illinois Area Agency on Aging who will assist in paying for the service. For moe about this or any care at Oak Lane, call us. "We are here to help."
