Ruth Bergman Is 104!

Ruth Bergman celebrated her 104th birthday Friday by hosting a birthday party for all her friends and all the residents of Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst. Ruth has been a resident there for the last couple of years and has enjoyed sharing the occasion with others.

Ruth was aided by her friend Margie Sells of Oquawka who has worked for Sells many years. "Maggie" brought a large decorated cake and vanilla ice cream and punch along with balloons for the celebration. Everyone enjoyed singing "Happy Birthday" to a lady who has lived in three decades. Ruth was born March 9, 1898, and has enjoyed an active life which has taken her on many adventures. Her late husband, she fondly called "Manny" told her she was the most beautiful woman in the world.

Ruth tells friends when they ask what she attributes her long life too, "I never skip breakfast. You can skip any other meal, but never skip breakfast." Her friend Pearl Greene added, "and she loves blueberries."

Ruth added, "It helps to live next door to a good cook."
