With all the recent rain, the atmosphere in town on dry days has been reminiscent of a "power show."
Riding lawn tractors, push mowers, and weed trimmers resound up and down the streets, but in 1916 the Graphic featured an ad for the latest in residential mowing equipment:
"I have put in a stock of the Eclipse Lawn Mowers.
This mower has two features which you do not get in any other lawn mower.
The cutting bar is adjusted with a thumb from the top of the mower and is so simple that anyone can adjust it.
The ratchets are so arranged that you can make the reel run backward by a simple adjustment in the center of the reel shaft in case you want to sharpen the mower with emery bust and oil, which is quite important.
Come in and let me show you this mower and explain its working." F. G.REYNOLDS, Stronghurst, IL
Recently, a local village resident asserted that he had three of old reel mowers; his end of town certainly should be quieter.
