One Side Parking Only On Jones Street

by: Shirley Linder, Quill Editor

Stronghurst Village board members voted on Monday evening to eliminate parking on the South side of Jones Street. Parking on both sides of the street, during fair week and other activities at the fair ground, causes unsafe conditions, especially for emergency vehicles. "There is plenty of free parking space on the fair grounds during any activity," said Terry Myers.

Mrs. Stanlee Way of Galesburg, presented the board with options on health insurance policies that are available should they wish to change companies. The board agreed to send applications to two companies, Star Mark and John Alden, for more accurate pricing before making a final decision. Mrs. Way will meet with the the city employees on Thursday to fill out the applications.

Dave Schaab of Waste Management met with the board and presented his bid for solid waste pick up. He also included recycling, with an offer to honor the price later, since the village already agreed to a two year contract for recycling with Maple City Recycling. Members felt there should be two bids and will try to get another in time for next months meeting before making a decision.

Richard Knutstrom said the Booster Club had made a decision for the village signs which will be placed along the highway. They will be two sided and low maintenance, probably 4' x 8' and 2-3 foot off the ground.

The board agreed to hire Rusty Decker to do electrical work on the shelter house. This would include changing the incandescent lighting to mercury vapor lighting. The board set a maximum of $2000 for the project, with the stipulation should it be more than that amount the finance committee will be notified.

President Chockley reminded everyone of the Booster Club's steak supper, clown, dance, etc. on Saturday evening, June 8th at the village park.

David Vancil reported a vehicle had gone through the fence at the city's burn pile, tearing up the fence and a railroad tie.

The sheriff's report included: one speeding ticket issued; two burglary investigations; two criminal damage to property investigations and 2 possession of drug equipment reports.

Present were: Tony Griepentrog, Terry Myers, Robert Scott, Frank Avery, David Vancil, Eric Chockley, Eileen Cargill, Lori Russell, Deputy Steve Haynes, Diana Doran, Stanlee Way, Dave Schaab, Richard Knutstrom and Anne Mulholland. Board member Lawrence Neff was absent.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2002, at the Stronghurst Fire Station.
