While it took a while to acquire a quorum, the Union School Board did meet at 7:37 p.m., July 22, to discuss a number of matters and to discuss school business.
Sams, Allaman and Reaves were absent.
Board members approved continuing contracts with Earth Grains, Inc., for bakery items and with Jerry's Dairy Service for milk, as those vendors submitted the lowest bids for those products for the 2002-2003 school year.
Carolyn Anderson and Barb Spreitler were approved for reassignment as science tech coordinators with limited assignments.
Jeff Wilson was approved for hire as Junior High P.E. teacher, elementary baseball coach and 7th grade basketball coach.
Eric Vancil was approved for hire as assistant elementary baseball coach and the resignation of Pat Olson-McGee was accepted.
At the recommendation of the school auditor, several loans and transfers from the 2001-2002 school year were formally approved.
Discussion of bus accident policies and procedures was postponed until a future date, but several ideas for the upcoming school kickoff were discussed.
In his Superintendent's report, Dean Irlbeck told the board that estimates from the State Board of Education suggest counting on receiving only 85-90% of what was expected in State Aid.
Irlbeck also told the board that members are invited to attend any or all of the upcoming in-service and staff development sessions.
With respect to tax warrants issued last spring, he said some $300,000 in payments had been made.
Summer maintenance and repair projects are on schedule, with new lockers scheduled to be painted in the week ahead, the playground area in process of being redone, painting in the gym now complete and floor repairs complete in the gym.
"We're going to be tight on some projects," Irlbeck said, "but it's coming together."
The Board of Education next meets at 6 p.m., August 7, for the purpose of self-evaluation and then in regular session at 7 p.m. on August 14.
