Dallas City Council Held Regular Meeting

The Dallas City Council held its regular meeting on July 10, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. Mayor Gittings called the meeting to order with the following Commissioners present: Esther Newberry and John Pieper. Nick Huston and Harold Northup, Jr. were absent.

Others attending the meeting were Jimmy Joe Rea, Erma Clanton, Jack Curfman, Lyle Terry, and Chris Classen.

A motion was made by Newberry, seconded by Pieper to accept the minutes of June 26, 2002. Newberry, Pieper, and Gittings-Aye. Northup and Huston-Absent.

Jack Curfman appeared regarding changes in the Disaster Funding. It appears that each City will need to have a hazard mitigation plan. There may be some training sessions at a later date giving information on how to set up a plan. The City is willing to attend one of these meetings.

Harold Northup arrived at 7:10 p.m.

Erma Clanton discussed burning garbage in burning barrels. The City Attorney will be contacted regarding this. Also discussed weeds on vacant lot next to her property. It was also asked if the City has jurisdiction of the train speeds.

Lyle Terry requested a bill from the City for boring on new water lines for the Legion Memorial. He also requested information regarding a nuisance. We will check with the City Attorney on this.

Commissioner Northup discussed rerouting traffic to Oak Street while work is being done on Pine Street.

Discussed roof on the old City Hall building. The City Attorney will be contacted about getting bids on a new roof.

Discussed parking along City Street in front of private property. Will have the City Attorney contact building owners about cleaning up outside premises.

A motion was made by Pieper, seconded by Northup to pay bills. Newberry, Pieper, Northup and Gittings-Aye. Huston-Absent.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 p.m.
