The Henderson County opening day of the 4-H Fair ended Sunday evening with the crowning of the 2002 Fair Queen Marissa Cole. It as an entertaining fun-filled evening for the many who filled bleachers in the Stronghurst gymnasium. The pageant committee of Susan Lyon, Wendy Corzatt and Stacie Arnold of The Antiquity of Stronghurst thanked many helpers including Dawn Sparrow, Chris Talbott, Mike and Chris Lenahan, Jackie Fisher, Mariya Smith, Amanda Van Arsdale, and Colton Knapp, and many others who helped.
Dressed in patriotic USA attire, 2002 Queen, Marissa Cole, sang Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA, the song that has brought so much meaning across America since 9-11.
For the evening gown segment, Marissa had chosen a striking yellow formal gown.
Runner-up was Starr Robinson who sang Andrew Lloyd Weber's "Think Of Me" from Phantom of the Opera, then later wore a beautiful red evening gown.
Marissa and Starr competed along with four other girls: Emily McCann, Rachael Bundy, Megan McCollum, Kristin Whiteman.
The six girls were all judged on an earlier interview prior to the pageant, their talent, and their presentation of their evening gown.
Queen Marissa is a 2002 Union High School graduate with a goal of becoming a nurse. She is spending her summer taking a human anatomy class at Southeastern Community College.
Marissa is the daughter of Roger and Debbie Cole of rural Gladstone, and has one brother Aaron. In her spare time she enjoys listening to music, spending time with her family and friends, baking, volunteering at Great River Medical Center and taking care of people.
Her Runner-up Starr Robinson is 16 years old. She will be a Junior at Southern High School this fall where she was selected as class president. Her hobbies are singing and is a three year member of the Ecumenical Singers of Monmouth.
Starr has played several roles in the school musicals and plays. She plans to go to college to become an Obstetrician and Gynecologist.
Starr is the daughter of Tanya Robinson and Mr. Ora Robinson.
The other four participants are Emily McCann, daughter of Diana Kent and Joe McCann. She graduated from Southern this year as Valedictorian and was active in speech, drama, scholastic Bowl, Chorus, Drama, Scholastic Bowl, Chorus, SAE and Ecology Club.. Emily was Vice President of the Senior Class and President of the National Honor Society
She is a member of the Stronghurst Methodist Church and will be attending WIU majoring in Elementary Education.
Megan McCollum is a junior this fall at Southern and member of the National Honor Society. She has two sisters and one brother. She participated in Pom Pon, Cheerleading, and Ecology Club. She loves music, dancing, swimming, and outside.
Megan spends her free time babysitting and with her friends.
Rachael Bundy is the daughter of Mr. Mike Bundy and Mrs. Shiryl Arends. She lives near Carman and is a Junior at Southern. She served as Class Vice President as a Sophomore, and FFA Green Hand Secretary. She enjoys basketball, cheerleading, track, is a member of the Ecology Club and will be FFA Reporter this fall.
Kristin Whiteman, 15 is the daughter of Vince and Melinda Whiteman and has a sister Kayla She is active in Union's, cheerleading, basketball, track, and volleyball. She is a member of the Ecumenical singers of Monmouth. She enjoys riding her five horses on the family farm and has set goals to attend college majoring in business or agriculture.
The audience of all ages, enjoyed the evening and the great talent of some of Henderson County' 's finest young ladies.

Queen Marissa Cole with nine of the Princesses of this year's Henderson County 4-H Fair: Miss Samantha Arnold, Miss Ali Postle, Miss Coco Inghram, Miss Alexis Ensminger, Miss Savannah Jackson, Miss MacKenzie Wagner-Allen, Alexis Foster, Miss Jennifer Livermore and Miss Kaitlin Sparrow. Absent are four girls due to ball tournaments. They are: Mariah Brooks, Jacinda Reighard, Ashli Burg, and Justine Dillard.
