The council will be making a final vote for the Waste Management proposal at the July meeting.
Dave Schaab of Waste Management has made many trips to La Harpe to discuss and work with the council on the best savings for the residents.
It was agreed to add the recycling option and two city cleanups per year. This option will provide a substantial savings and better service.
The action was disfulsserd at the June 24th 2002 La Harpe City Council meeting last month.
Also, the need to hire a city hall janitor due to the resignation of the current janitor was discussed. The responsibility for general cleaning is for about two hours per week.
The transmission in the city police vehicle was reported repaired, and appreciation was expressed to the County Sheriffs office for the use of a replacement vehicle during the repair.
The city police expressed their thanks to Debbie Finch for the assistance and time spent in receiving grant money for the new police vests.
There was discussion on The Coalition Community Service Grant which is a federal grant for setting up after school activities, hotlines, teen center, and various needs.
The La Harpe community fits the profile for qualifying for this grant. There is no cost to the city, and the council would like to work with them.
The council discussed various sidewalk replacements in town.
The budget committee met June 4 to prepare the proposed budget for the new year.
At the June 24 meeting, the motion to approve the budget passed. It was discussed that there is a need to watch the money being spent on jobs, and that bids are necessary to control over- spending. The auditor was to start the audit of records on June 26.
The yearly approval was made of the "Prevailing Wage Ordinance" and the May minutes and treasurers report were approved.
