Several Illinois
FFA Chapters recently attended the 74th Annual Illinois FFA Convention, held
June 11-13 in the Prairie Capitol Convention Center, Springfield. The Southern
FFA Chapter received many of the awards presented.
Southern received the $1,000 Club Award, which recognizes chapters who have collected $1,000 to $1,999 during the Foundation Collection Drive. This year, the Foundation met their goal of $300,000 by getting a collection of $303,061.90.
Southern also received the National Chapter Gold Emblem Award at the Convention. Of those, the top thirty-one will advance to the National Competition. This award recognizes FFA chapters for their outstanding program of activities for the past year. The National Chapter Gold Emblem Award is the highest rank a chapter can receive in the state.
The FFA Chapter at Southern was also awarded the Century Challenge Award, which recognizes chapters that have membership equal to 100% of the total high school enrollment in Agricultural Education.
The Gold Emblem Award was received by Southern as well for their Chapter Development Program, Student Development Program and Community Development Program.
The Chapter Development and Community Development Program make up the chapter's program of activities. In the Student Development Program part, chapters are judged on projects that involve individual students such as individual contests, leadership training classes or scholarships.
FFA is the largest vocational student organization in the nation, numbering more than 450,000 members.
