La Harpe:Another great year is planned for car show enthusiasts who will be visiting the 4th Annual Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show. Co-chaired by La Harpe's Mayor Kenny Brown and Rodeffer's FS mechanic Jerry Burford, the event is set for Saturday, August 3rd, only a month away.
Thirty classes are set with trophies to be handed out at 3:00 p.m.. They are sponsored for 3 places in each class, which means a minimum of 90 trophies awarded. In the larger classes, they hope to provide even more trophies as sponsors are acquired. Special awards are given for "Best Chevy," "Best Ford," "Best Mopar," "Best of Show," and "Longest Distance."
There is a pre-entry fee of $12 ($15 day of show) with each entry getting a "dash plaque," created by Time & Chime of La Harpe, and this year's "4th Annual Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show" shirt which will feature three cars. They are Kenny Barnhardt's orange #3 ZL-1 (the original car he bought from Fred Gibb); Carl Stuber' forest green #65 1969 ZL-1 "Thunder"; and Ray Morrison's 1968 dark blue Nova. The design is created by Nauvoo's Outlaw Tee's.
Two central attractions will be featured in two tents, and a third tent will house a kids coloring contest of classic cars of their choosing. This tent will also be used for anyone needing a place to sit out of the sun.
The main central tent will house four original Fred Gibb super cars, the ZL-1 Camaros, two or three Dick Harrell Novas, and a Yenko Camaro and Novas.
The other central tent is being sponsored by Macomb Auto Parts and will have the unveiling of the never-been-seen-before Berger 2002 ZL-1 Camaros, the #1 and #3 which have special heels, engine and body parts, plus a SS Camaro which Berger's had especially built for Hot Rod magazine.
Berger has built fifty of these Camaros, the same as Fred Gibb did in 1969. Fifty is the minimum requirement for a buyer to have a vehicle custom made.
No alcohol is allowed on the grounds, but there will be food and drink for families. Music will be provided by Stan Clayton of Macomb.
More highlights of this year's car show will continue next week.
