Rebels Win Bi-County Tournament

For the third year in a row, the Southern Rebels captured the Bi-County Tournament.

After a 79-40 win over Industry at Stronghurst on Saturday night. The rest of the tournament was held at Yorkwood.

On Tuesday, January 22, the Rebels played Valley, the 3rd seed.

The first quarter was a high scoring affair, with the Rebels leading 25-20. Southern pushed their advantage at halftime to 42-35.

In the second half, the Rebels turned up the defense and only allowed 23 points, to come out with a 77-58 victory.

Wisslead was leading rebounder with 11. Morrison and Wisslead had 7 assists to his teammates.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP

On Friday, January 25, the Rebels played Yorkwood in the championship game.

The Rebs jumped out to a quick lead and finished the first quarter up 16-7, and by half-time was up 32-12.

Yorkwood outscored the Rebels in the third quarter 16-12, but could not keep up that pace in the fourth quarter. The final score was 65-36.

Nick Morris was leading rebounder with 11.

Dan Morrison had 9 assists, and Chris Wisslead had 6 steals. Defense again was the key to the Rebel victories.

Coach Jay Blender notched his 6th Bi-County Tournament Championship as coach of the Rebels.

Southern will be back in action on Jan. 28th Nauvoo at home, Jan. 29th, Yorkwood away, and Feb. 1stÑNorthwestern at home.
