If you missed this game, you missed an excellent Jr. High basketball game. Bushnell is a big, strong, physical team. They really came out playing tough.
The first quarter was a very tense quarter. Each team seemed a little tight. The Raider pressure created some turnovers that led to some baskets.
After one quarter the Raiders were on top 7 to 1.
In the second, Bushnell came out physical. They outscored the Raiders 8 to 5. Foul problems were a big factor for the Raiders, as they picked up several
in the quarter. The Raiders went to the half on top 12 to 9.
The third quarter saw the Raiders hit from the outside, against the Bushnell zone defense. Scoring 12 points in the quarter, the Raiders pulled ahead 24 to 15.
With the game on the line in the fourth, the Raiders failed to score a basket. However, they made 7 of 11 foul shots. The defense held Bushnell to one 2-point basket for the quarter until a late 3 pointer ended the game. Final score Southern 31 and Bushnell 20.
To hold Bushnell to 20 points was a tremendous job of
defense. Bushnell is a fine basketball team. I am very proud of the effort the Raiders made to win this game. This moves the Raiders record to 17 wins and 0 losses.
Darick Clark was the leading scorer for the Raiders. He had 10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 assist. Darick also held McNeely of Bushnell to 8 points. As usual, Darick did a fine job of defense.
Abe Chockley scored 9 points, and had 2 rebounds, 3 steals, and 1 assist. Abe played great defense all night holding his man scoreless. He also converted 5 of 6 foul shots in the 4th quarter to keep the Raiders in the lead.
Jacob Gillen had 6 points and one assist. Jacob did a nice job also on defense as well as getting the offense run.
Adam Corzatt netted 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist. Adam continues to play well.
Nick Burg finished the scoring with 2 points, 4 rebounds, and a steal. Nick really did a nice job.
With Jerry Morris in foul trouble all night long, Nick provided us a big lift.
