Letter to Editor - Stronghurst City Council

Dear Shirley,

I visited the (Stronghurst) City Council for the first time last night. It is somethingÊwe all should do and more often.

I was especially interested in the recycling program that I had understood they would be voting on.

One amazing thing I learned, that I would like to share with you and your readersÊis the fact that when they spend tax money it "won't cost you a thing"! I would much prefer to see OUR tax money spent locally, rather than in Warren County. Sorry, fellas, I didn't buy that FREE bit! I do pay taxes!!

I count many of these fellows among my friends, and have known most of them on a first name basis for years. But I fail to understand how it is better to spend our money in Warren County.

If we have tax money for them, why can't that money be put to use in our own community?

I had thought the town was mandated to support the present recycling center, but that has evidently expired or something. That was not really made clear.

My opinion is that those who can't be bothered to take their recycling stuff' to the center, probably won't bother to get it to the curb either.

It appears to be a concerted effort to get rid of Tom Edmonds'. I don't feel that that is a

satisfactory goal. He has done a lot for all of us for several years now, with little or no appreciationÊexpressed by the community..

I would like to see the Booster Club speak out on this.

I have always felt that we should support our own village first. And that is supposed to be their primary goal.

I know many people think recycling is only a bother, but we should all be good stewards of what we have been blessed with.

Any effort to keep as much as possible from the landfills is a worthwhile effort.

Our modern culture has so much disposable' stuff, we each need to do our part. And I will continue to recycle as much as possible whichever way it goes.

But I am very disappointed in the prevailing attitude of the council.

Sincerely,
Dorothy Martin
