Union Adopts Levy; Sits for Staff Presentations

A tax levy of .16 for 2001 was adopted by the Union School Board during their second regular December board meeting last week.

All but Reaves were present.

The rate was adjusted since the preliminary was filed, due to an error in calculation. The preliminary rate was .26, still less than 1%.

In his administrative report, Fred Nestler said incentive meetings will be complete next month and elementary staff members will be conducting its annual internal review. He said staff has received training to help better address the effects of domestic violence on school age children.

In her principal's report, Pat Collins said the Madrigal dinner and performances went well. She said seniors will be purchasing their caps and gowns for graduation.

She reported that 47 pints of blood were donated during the Red Cross blood drive. An assembly as well as a staff development training session on eating disorders were held recently, and a committee to address school bullying is currently being put together she said.

The board listened to staff presentations from the UES volleyball coaching staff and social studies, social skills and 5th and 6th grade science teachers.

Music Boosters reported selling Christmas ornaments and are planning to reorganize in the future.

The dollar amount of the revised tax levy approved is $2,076,790, including $438,500 for bond and interest payments.

Superintendent Irlbeck, reported that the district has met all testing requirements for the fuel tanks.

The board approved minutes of prior meetings, the revised board calendar and the financial reports.

They will next meet with board members from Southern High School and possibly members from Roseville and Yorkwood boards at the Southern High School Cafeteria at 7 p.m. on January 9, 2002.
