Thunder Win Fourth In a Row

The LaHarpe/Northwestern Thunder traveled to Biggsville on December 20 to do battle with Higgins and the Union Yankees. Higgins has signed to attend Ohio State University in the fall and is one of the better athletes in the area. The Lady Thunder started the game out slow and found themselves down 9-0 early, but would go on a 16-0 run and regain the lead at the end of on 16-9. However, this game would see each team have spurts and Union would out score LH/NW 8-3 in the second and only be down 2 at halftime. The Thunder would extend their lead by 6 after 3 quarters. The Thunder would maintain the lead and win the game 36-32. It was a low scoring affair with both teams playing good defense.

The Thunder's defense was tough and was able to keep Higgins to 13 points.

On the offensive side of the ball for the Thunder, Amber Pence would lead the way with 14 points including 4 three pointers, Tammy Decounter and Brooke Campbell would each score 6 points, but much of our success on defense would be because of these two girls. Ashley Yeast would chip in 4 points and handle the glass for the Thunder.

Coming off of the bench and doing a nice job was April Gittings who also had 4 points. Mel Yeast would finish the scoring by contributing 2 points. Sarah Dihle and Marcy Wood would not get in the scorebook, but would give the Thunder some quality minutes on the defensive end of the floor.

The Thunder are starting to get as a team and are learning how to win the close games. They are a great bunch of kids to have in the first year of the co-op.
