The Hancock-Henderson Quill, Inc.
Archibald Huston's widow, Mrs. Bowman, was one of the early settlers of Bedford Township (Raritan). She and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Owen, and a sister and two brothers came from Tennessee by way of Indiana by horseback. They settled on the edge of timber in Section 29 & 30 and their house was the only one between that and Honey Creek All their trading was done with old Billy Smith at La Harpe when it was but a small town. The trip to and from was made with old Buck and Berry (their horses) at a rate of 3 or 4 miles per hour. Today, as we travel by jet, we cannot truly understand that this speed was indeed efficient.
