Police Report Car-Bus Accident At New Illinois 116 By-Pass

Roseville - Twenty-four students in a Macomb High School school bus and two Southern High School graduates avoided serious injuries on their way home from ballgames Friday night.

A 1992 Dodge Colt driven by Sarah Brokaw, 19 with one passenger - Ashley Cargill, 19 of Stronghurst was westbound through Roseville and came upon the newly opened by-pass.

According to Illinois State Police reports, Brokaw stopped at the intersection and began to proceed through the intersection when she struck the 1992 International School Bus of Macomb.

The bus was southbound and went off the west side of the four-lane, knocked down a sign, and traveled two tenths a mile through a ravine.

Both vehicles were totaled and six teens were treated and released at two different hospitals.

Four of the the students on the bus had minor injuries and were treated and released at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.

Brokaw and Cargill, college students at home for the holidays in Stronghurst, were treated for moderate injuries at Community Medical Center in Monmouth and released.

The accident was reported around 10:30 p.m.

Assisting Illinois State Police were Warren County deputies, Roseville Fire Dept., Roseville Rescue Squad and three Warren County ambulances according to the report.
