'02 ZL1 Camaro's Coming To La Harpe

La Harpe - The public is invited to another historic event which is about to take place in La Harpe on Tuesday, December 31, 2002.

According to Mrs. Helen Gibb, it was over thirty years ago on a below zero New Years Eve, an automobile transport pulled into the lot of Fred Gibb Chevrolet with two Chevrolet Camaros on board. The first ever ZLI Camaro was being delivered!

This December 31, 2002, beginning in the morning at 10 o'clock, there will be several ZLI 2002 Camaros uncovered in the former Fred Gibb Dealership building ready to meet their new owners who will receive their keys, warranties, etc.

This special public event has been planned by Matt Murphy, President and founder of GMMG, Inc. of Marietta, Georgia.

Mr. Murphy is trying to repeat what happened in La Harpe over thirty years ago. He will bring several of these beautiful new cars, which he has produced, to La Harpe.

There will eventually be 69 of these terrific cars which is reminiscent of the time that Fred Gibb had the first 50 ZL1's, and later another 19 were built, to make the 69 vehicles. Each buyer has had the option to choose what motor, color and other special items that he may want on his car.

The original price was around $60,000. A few weeks ago one of these cars was exhibited at the Chicago Chevy-'vette Fest at McCormick Place. It won "Best of Show." That car is now valued at $150,000.

Mr. Murphy will be remembered as the gentleman that unveiled the first ZL1 2002 model at the Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show last August in La Harpe.

The return of the ZL1 was not only produced to honor Fred Gibb and his accomplishments, but also to commemorate the final year of the Camaro, according to Murphy.

It is anticipated that the program will be covered by TV and newspapers. There will be autographs and picture taking. Matt Murphy has said that he hopes many will come and be a part of this historic event. The former Fred Gibb Chevelot Dealership, now owned by Arlin Clover doing business as Clover's Tire Shop, is located on Main Street at the northwest edge of LaHarpe at Junction Hwy 9 & 94.
