The new Henderson County Board took form December 2 as the old body met briefly for one last time and newly elected members were sworn in by Judge Ronald Tenold. Stevenson was absent.
During the first meeting, bids for catering jail meals were presented to the board by Gail Russell. At his recommendation, The Hub was accepted as the new provider of meals served at the jail, based not only on their offering the best price but also because they "gave a detailed menu of what they would provide."
The board unanimously approved the bid.
Only one committee report was offered, by outgoing member Randy Keever, building and grounds committee chairman.
Keever told the board the siding project on the courthouse is complete, as is installation of the boilers and sidewalk work. Air conditioning work will be done in the spring.
Following the adjournment of the first board meeting, Tenold swore into office those members elected November 5 - Hugh Pence, Gail Russell, Barb Lumbeck, Marion Brown, Terry Myers, Marty Lafary, Tom Doran, Curt Eisenmayer, Albert Renken, Michael Thompson and George Torrance.
Marcella Cisna was appointed temporary chairman as Marion Brown was named as the sole nominee for board chairman and was unanimously elected as such.
A nomination of Gail Russell for the vice-chairman slot followed and Russell was elected to that post.
Committees were then appointed by Brown and members drew for term lengths.
Those board members who drew four-year terms are Renken, Myers, Pence, Eisenmayer, Thompson and Lafary.
Members who drew 2-year terms are Russell, Torrance, Lumbeck, Doran and Brown.
Earlier in the day, Tenold swore into office Susan Meyer, county treasurer; Marcella Cisna, county clerk; and Mark Lumbeck, sheriff. Tenold additionally swore David Vancil, Jr., into office as a new judge in the Ninth Judicial Circuit.
The next meeting will be January 14, 2003, at 8:30 a.m. in the Henderson County Courthouse. The public is welcome.
