On April 16 Southern hosted ICS, Dallas City, and Yorkwood. The 7th and 8th grade girl's teams dominated the meet with ending totals of 104 and 109.

The fifth and sixth grade girls from Southern traveled to Northwestern for a fifth and sixth grade meet on April 17.
The girls did a fine job, and brought home a first. In the 100 meter hurdles Rachele Jack placed first and Kayla Rothzen second. Rothzen also achieved a first in the 1600-meter run.
Brittany Fox and Kristin Plath came in first and second in the 100-meter dash. The 4x100 meter relay out ran the competition for a first place.
The team was comprised of Sarah Heller, Ashley Coffey, Rachel Keane, and Miriam Rutzen. In the 400 meter run Sarah Heller won first and Brittany Fox got second. In the 200-meter dash Kristin Plath and Rachel Keane placed first and fourth. Miriam Rutzen came in second with her teammate Ashley Coffey coming in third in the 800 meter run.
Both the 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams nailed first place finishes. In the 4x200 were Brittany Fox, Rachele Jack, Kristin Plath, and Kayla Rothzen. The 4x400 was compiled of Sarah Heller, Miriam Rutzen, Ashley Coffey, and Rachele Jack. Rachel Keane accomplished second in shot put and third in discus. Miriam Rutzen placed first in high jump and Brittany Fox third. The long jump placing were Rachele Jack second, and Kayla Rothzen third.
On Monday, April 15, 2002 Southern's girls track team competed in a triangular meet with Warren and Roseville. The 7th grade team won the meet with 53 points. The 8th graders however lost by a slim margin of 3 points with a total of 47.
