Southern Jr. High Girls Track

After many canceled track meets due to uncooperative weather the girls Raider track team triumphantly faced Avon and Cuba at Avon on April 5, for the season opener.

For the 7th grade 100-meter hurdles, Rachele Jack placed first and Kayla Rothzen came in third.

Hillary Brooks took third in the 100-meter dash and Kristin Plath fourth.

Rothzen also won the 1600 run with teammate Ashley Coffey coming in third.

Southern's 4x100 relay earned third place. Alicia Phillips received in fourth in the 200-meter dash.

Rachele Jack and Sarah Heller took second and third in the 100-meter run.

Southern took third in the 4x200 relay and first in the 4x400 relay. In field events, Brooks placed second in discus and shot put.

Kayla Rothzen earned a fourth place in long jump. In high jump, Miriam Rutzen took first place and Alicia Phillips ended with a second.

For Miriam's first high jump competition ever, this was quite an accomplishment to receive a first.

In 8th grade events Shanna Avery started the Raiders off with a first in the 100-meter hurdles with teammates Ciara Robinson and Kayla Coffey coming in third and fourth.

Laura Hoover and Shayna Heap placed first and second in the 100-meter dash.

In the 1600-meter run Theresa Brokaw achieved first place.

Southern placed third in the 4x100, first in the 4x200, and second in the 4x400 meter relays.

First, second, and fourth were captured by Laura Hoover, Olivia Crandall, and Paige Lafary in the 400-meter run.

Shayna Heap won first in the 200-meter dash, and in the next event Brokaw also took first in the 800 meter run.

Darci Renken and Crystal Alexander placed first and fourth in the shot put.

In long jump, Laura Hoover and Brokaw earned first and second.

Ciara Robinson won the discus. Heap and Renken took first and second in the high jump.

All of these achievements by the athletes went towards a winning evening for both the 7th and 8th grade Lady Raider teams. Congratulations you survived your first meet!

With a beautiful afternoon for a track met on April 9, Dallas City and Northwestern traveled to Southern for a triangular track meet. The 7th grade Lady Raiders finished second to Northwestern with fifty points. The 8th grade girls however won the meet with a tally of ninety-nine points.

On Wednesday, April 10, 2002 the Raider girls traveled to Carthage. In the triangular meet with Carthage and Mendon Unity the 7th grade girls won the meet with fifty-four points, and the 8th grade girls took first with seventy-three points.

The Bobcat Relays were held in Warsaw on April 11, 2002, which girls from the Lady Raider track team particiapted. The girls took second overall by one point with sixty-six points. LaHarpe took 1st with 67 points.

On April 13, 2002, the girls track team from Southern ventured to Rushville for a sixteen-team relay meet. We finished second with a score of fifty-six, but coming in first was Rushville with sixty points.
