SJH Boys Fare Well At Rushville Relays

Southern's Jr. High Boys Track & Field team took to the road Saturday, April 13, for the Rushville Invitational.

This year the Raiders competed against athletes from Beardstown, Camp Point Central, Hamilton, Mendon Unity, Pittsfield, Payson, Jacksonville, Northwestern, Hannibal, Carthage, Rushville, Griggsville, Lewiston, and Winchester, a total of fifteen schools.

Although Southern was one of the smallest schools at the meet, and one of the few schools not competing in the boy's pole vaulting event, the Raiders tallied 32 points and finished in sixth place overall at the meet!

Jerry Morris and Abe Chockley took home first place medals in the combined discus throw as Morris again threw well over 130' and Chockley was out over 120'!

The hurdle shuttle team was only a tenth of a second away from a medal as they finished in third place overall!

Adam Corzatt, Ross Gullberg, Tanner Hartman, and Ryan Utter were members of that relay.

Morris and Gullberg received third place ribbons in the High Jump combined.

Morris once again equaled the school record in that event with a leap of 5'7".

He also teamed with Corzatt to take fourth place in the shot put event!

The Mile Medley team of Chockley, Utter, Darick Clark, and Corzatt finished in fourth place.

Then the 4x200 Relay team of Chockley, Utter, Morris, and Clark ran a nice 1:50.05 and finished in fifth place!

The meet gave the Raiders some valuable experience against some quality competition that will help them prepare for the upcoming Sectional track meet.
