LaHarpe District Superintendent named Monday

LaHARPE, Ill. The LaHarpe School Board unanimously voted to hire Joe Campbell, Albers, Ill., as superintendent of their schools Monday.

Campbell is currently superintendent of Pope County, Ill., School District, about 30 miles east of St. Louis. The K through 12 school district has a student enrollment of 620.

The vacancy left at LaHarpe, when Steve Breckon left his post as superintendent last summer to accept a similar post with the Hamilton, Ill., School District, was filled when Jerry Arthur, Bushnell, agreed to serve as interim superintendent.

Arthur, a retired school administrator who also works with the education Department at Western Illinois University in Macomb, has steered LaHarpe through the current school year.

Campbell, who is currently completing his doctorate at Southern Illinois University, also has served as school principalòsuperintendent at Albers Elementary School.

The Pinckneyville, Ill., native will receive an annual salary of $68,000.

Campbell's three year contract begins July 1, 2002.
