Southern traveled
to Hamilton on Thursday, April 4. Both teams came into the game with perfect
4-0 records.
Southern scored first when Matthew McIntire led off the game with a single to left. He stole second and moved to third on a fielders choice. Christopher Wisslead then hit a sharp single to left plating McIntire for Southern's first and only run of the game.
Hamilton came right back in the bottom of the first with two of their own runs for a 2-1 lead. Hamilton then added to the lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a final score of 4-1.Matthew McIntire pitched all seven innings for the complete game. Although Matt took the loss, he pitched a great game. Matt also led the team at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance and scoring the team's lone run. Ryan Keever did a great job defensively in centerfield, making several nice plays on well-hit balls keeping Hamilton from extending their lead in the game.

On Saturday, April 6, Southern traveled to Springfield to play in the 5th Annual Central Illinois Showcase at Lanphier Park. This is a professional ballpark and the ballpark that the state tournament games are played at.
Southern was scheduled to play Petersburg Porta at 9:00 a.m. The morning was brisk but not cold, and the sun was shining when the game started. Christopher Wisslead was on the mound for the Rebels.
Christopher turned in a solid performance on the mound despite taking the loss. Petersburg scored first with a run in the second inning to lead 1-0.
Petersburg added to the lead in the top of the third crossing the plate three more times for a 4-0 lead.
Southern finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth scoring two runs. Matt McIntire led off with a walk followed by a triple to deep center by Joshua Ragar, plating McIntire. Christopher Wisslead then drove in Ragar with a solid double to right-center field to cut the lead to 4-2. Unfortunately this would be the only scoring done by the Rebels in the game. Petersburg came back in the top of the seventh and scored three more times to make the final score 7-2. A defensive highlight of the game was a spectacular diving catch by Nathan Corzatt at third base robbing a Petersburg player of a sure double.
It was a great opportunity for our Rebels to demonstrate what a great baseball program Southern has. They represented themselves and our community very well.
Southern coaches and players appreciate all the fans who purchased tickets to support the Rebels trip down to Springfield to play in the Showcase.
