Southern Illinois State Scholars

The Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) has announced this year's Illinois State Scholars. The Illinois State Scholar Program recognizes Illinois high school students for outstanding academic achievement.

Students ranking in the top ten percent of the state's high school graduating seniors have been named Illinois State Scholars.

Selection is based on ACT and/or SAT I test score results (including the Prairie State Achievement Exam) and class rank of the end of the sixth semester in high school.

While the program does not provide a monetary award, the designation as an Illinois State Scholar is an honor.

Three seniors from Southern High School qualifying as Illinois State Scholars are: Joshua Ragar, son of Lynn and Jay Ragar of Stronghurst; Emily McCann, daughter of Mrs. Diana Kent of Media and Joe McCann of Oquawka and John Buss, son of Donna and Dale Buss of rural Media.

We are proud of these fine students.
