Stronghurst Village Selects Display Design for Fire Bell

Curt Eisenmayer was present at Monday night's Stronghurst Village Board meeting to report on progress he has made for displaying the old fire bell in the village park.

The bell will be placed on the North-East corner of the Stronghurst Park across from Banks & Beals Funeral home. Curt showed members pictures of displays in La Harpe and in Columbus Junction, IA. He said they had included the Maltese cross (the firemen's emblem) into the design, along with the plaque.

The board agreed upon the design which includes a roof, and Curt will get a cost to bring to the next board meeting in May.

Lawrence Neff said now that winter is over, it is time for the Stronghurst Clean-up Committee to meet and tour the village for unsightly problems. This will be done later in April.

Sheriff's Deputy Steve Hayne's report included the following arrests: Improper Lane Uusage; 2 DUI;

2 Disorderly Conduct; Illegal Transportation; 2 No Drivers Licenses;

2 other traffic offenses; Suspended/Revoked Drivers License; Operating Uninsured Motor Vehicle.

President Eric Chockley requested that the sheriff's department crack down on speeding in the village.

Board members agreed that the building purchased by the village will be used for a village office and maintenance. Eileen Cargill was instructed to change the utilities over to the village now that the purchase has been finalized. All board members were offered keys with most taking one.

Robert Scott reported the weekly village recycling each Wednesday is going well with many particating.

Free recycling bins are still available to anyone who is paying a water bill in town.

Anyone wishing a container can pick one up at Doran's Insurance or call one of the village employees and one will be delivered.

All members were present except Terry Myers. The next board meeting will be held Monday, May 6, 2002 at 7 p.m. at the MST fire station.
