The Fred Gibb Model Car Arrives
And It's A Beautiful Bright Red!

-by Dessa Rodeffer, Gloria Snyder, The Quill and Mrs. Fred (Helen) Gibb

For the La Harpe residents and the Fred Gibb-Dick Harrell COPO car enthusiasts, things just keep getting better.

The bright red die cast model of the 1968 Fred Gibb-Dick Harrell Chevrolet COPO (Central Office Productive Order) Nova SS 396 has just become available!

It is quite exciting for the many fans of the late Fred Gibb who rubbed shoulders with him in his racing days. And almost everyone likes automobiles, and many who enjoy collecting models of their favorite cars.

This is sure to be a favorite. Fred Gibb raced cars at tracks from coast to coast during 1967-1971 and was always interested in high performance cars.

There were fifty COPO Novas manufactured in 1968 and fifty of the famous ZL-1 Camaros were produced in 1969. All of these special made cars came to Fred Gibb Chevrolet in La Harpe.

Now, thirty four years later, models of the Novas are reaching the market.

There are only 2004 of these 1:18 scale models being made by Georgia Marketing and Promotions of Winder, Georgia.

The models are now in the hands of the distributors and several from this area have already made purchases. When the 2004 are gone, no more will be produced.

The car model is over ten inches long and is red in color. It is displayed in a bright red collector's box with vision from the front and top.

Inside, behind the model is a large picture of the Fred Gibb Chevrolet car lot with Fred and the Nova which was taken in 1968. Mirrors reflect the front and back of the car.

On the outside of the box are pictures of Fred and the car and one of him in his office. There is also a write-up about him and how the original fifty Novas became available.

Several of these fifty Novas have been restored and have come to the Fred Gibb Memorial Car Show each year in La Harpe. More are expected to be here for this year's show on August 3rd.

These collectible cars are beautiful and have become a part of La Harpe history.
