Foresman Brothers: doctors and SHS graduates

Robert P. Foresman son of Merlin and Mary Foresman was born on October 25, 1933 in Hancock County, Durham.

A year later on December 27, 1934, James Foresman was born. The following year, the family moved to the Raritan community in March, 1935. They were two of ten children raised on a farm.

They both attended Cox School for 8 years, and Stronghurst High School with Robert graduating in 1951 and James in 1952.

Robert went into the Air force and served in the Korean War. He then attended the University of Illinois in Chicago then went on to Medical School at Loyola University.

He practiced in Crystal Lake for many years then Casey, IL for twenty years before he passed away on Nov. 29, 2001 at the age of 68.

He is survived by two sons and five daughters.

James also attended the University of Illinois but in Champaign. Then he also attended the Loyola School of Medicine in Chicago.

After becoming a doctor practicing in DePue and Princeton, Dr. James, with a family of five children at home, was drafted into the army in 1966 and sent to take basic training in San Antonio, Texas. This was during the Vietnam crisis, and they needed doctors.

After the service, James returned to practicing medicine in Princeton.

He passed away on January 31, 1995. He is survived by 3 sons and 1 daughter.

Both Jim and Robert played basketball and football at Stronghurst High School and they both graduated as Valedictorians of their class.

Both served as doctor for the football teams in communities in which they lived.

Their parents, who had lived across from the Stronghurst park after retiring from the farm, would have been 100 next June and July if they were still alive.

Their sister Elsie Hartman, who is now living in the home, said the Foresman family still get together each June to celebrate their parents birthdays, usually in West Lake in Davenport, Iowa.

In June 2003, however, she said the family is planning the gathering at the Stronghurst park in celebration of their parents 100th birthdays.
