Monday, being
a snow day started out the week with a cancellation of a home game against
Camp Point Central.
By Thursday March 28, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful day for a ball game.
Williamsfield came to town for Southern's home opener.
Williamsfield put together a strong inning in the third based upon two singles, a walk, and a single to score twice for a 2-0 lead.
Gabe Secrist pitched well for WIlliamsfield holding down Southern's bats until the sixth inning when Nick Morris led off with a single.
Christopher Wisslead stepped up and belted his second homerun of the season, a two-run homerun, to tie the game at 2.
In the seventh inning Joshua Ragar got things started with a walk.
Nick Morris then roped a double to advance Ragar to third. Williamsfield then intentionally walked Wisslead to load the bases.
Quinn Leath slapped a shot to the first baseman who threw to the plate to force Ragar out.
With the bases still loaded, Adam Burrell came to the plate.
Adam showed great discipline on several pitches, finally drawing a walk to force in the winning run from third.
Quinn Leath pitched well en route to his second victory of the year, pitching all seven innings of the game.
Quinn gave up two runs on five hits, two walks, and eleven strikeouts.
The Southern baseball team showed great poise and maturity in this come-from-behind win.

On Monday April 1, Nauvoo visited Stronghurst on a night which quickly turned cold.
Nauvoo started out the game with a quick score.
Tim Parrish led off the game with a homerun on a 3-2 pitch over left-center field off of Southern starter Christopher Wisslead.
Kevin Brewer followed with a two-run homerun in the first to give Nauvoo a 3-0 lead.
Southern came back with a run in each of the first and second innings. Joshua Ragar singled in the first, rounding the base paths on three consecutive pass balls to score. In the second, Quinn Leath crossed the plate on a fielder's choice by Ryan Keever, giving Keever the RBI.
In the fourth Leath doubled in Ragar and Wisslead for Southern's first lead of the game at 4-3.
Southern never looked back adding six more runs for a final score of 10-3.
Contributing to those six runs was Brandon Rothzen's first varsity homerun, a three-run blast.
Christopher Wisslead settled down after the first inning and did not allow another run for his second victory of the season.
Quinn Leath came in to pitch the final six outs of the game.
Again Southern's offense came alive for a well earned victory.
